WORK SAMPLES
I hope you enjoy the selected variety of projects showcasing my skill sets and representing my design philosophies.
LANCASTER CORRIDOR
GROUP ANALYSIS

Working with a group of eight individuals, our task was to construct a strong historical base, analyze existing conditions and recent changes, and compose a detailed analytical package of Lancaster Avenue and the surrounding context.

After researching data and talking with local residence we diagrammed our investigations, studying them instensely.  We concluded our strategies for improving the area:

Stabalize

Connect

Reinforce

Experience

Characterize

Implementing soft techniques, infrastructure innitiatives, and a linear greenway were additional methods we established for reaching our end goal.

THE CROSS ROADS MARKET

Through the detailed analysis and group research of the master plan (above), I determined that a market was a necessary component that was missing within the fabric of West Philadelphia. Establishing a site at 40th, Lancaster, and Haverford, I set a goal to design a large, open, and flexible space that could be utilized as a multi-functional building.

In order to combat gentrification, I was determined to establish a market where products could be offered to all levels of consumers.  By designing a main indoor market paralleled by an outdoor flea market, products were accessibe and available to everyone.

The connection between the two markets was joined by Warren Walk, a linear park linking green spaces throughout the entire site of the Lancaster Master Plan.

ATRIUM DESIGN

Design components of the atrium were required to meet criteria that satisfied a LEED Platinum Certified building, representing a Robotics Corporate Headquarters.

Important aspects of southern orientations, optimal views, and a committment to sustainability were drivers of the final concept.

An exterior envelope was developed to create a dynamic and interactive louver system that adjusted with solar angles.  The overall concept was to use these louvers as a way of communicating the conditions outside the building to the users within the space.  This would be achieved through the full flexibility and customization of the louver system; reducing glare, optimizing appropriate and playful shadows, framing high visibility views, and allowing human interaction with the system.

REINVENTING HOME

Appreciation of the natural environment and how it contributes to our daily lives and well being develops with age.  The sight of an early morning sunrise or the warmth of the sun on a cool afternoon sets the tone for the entire day.  Everyone should have the ability to take advantage of what nature gives us.  NATURE’S COURT COMMUNITY HOMES’ design focuses on the landscape and scenery of the thick forest and ocean front.  Wind turbines capture the strong breezes from the ocean for energy, while exterior balconies and intensive green roofs manage a portion of the storm water runoff.  Permeable Interlocking Concrete Pavements (PICP’s) are used for the pedestrian and vehicular pathways, varying in patterns and colors for distinction.  The natural topography of this site allows for optimal opportunities to use both ocean and woodland views.  The importance of courtyards and outdoor community spaces is enforced throughout the design.

CONCEPT MODELS & RENDERS

The following projects were used to study the arrangement of form and juxtaposition of elements within a whole.  The common goal was to understand the value of experimenting with compositions.

SKETCHES

The beginning sketches represent my study abroad trip in Barcelona.  All drawings were inspired and rendered while on site, capturing the intensity and magnitude of the culture within the city.  The images chosen best depict the immense amount of architecture and nature we were exposed to while visiting this magnificent area of Spain, for just two short weeks.  Memories from this trip continue to inspire me and influence my designs everyday.

The following sketches represent how I use art as form of expression.  These pieces were done throughout my education at Drexel, studying techniques that were both familiar and foreign.  For myself, part of the excitement of hand rendering is the flexibility that comes from creating each and every aspect of a particular drawing.  Each piece is unique, no matter how many times it’s been done before.
